Fb-Button        URGENT~~  A4299029 Henry is a darling 2 year old Moo Cow black and white cat that came into the Carson Shelter as a stray on 6/23.  He had an injured leg that healed wrong so it is permanently bent now. The bent part runs on the ground and is a sore spot (see picture). He is being treated while at the shelter but I am sure he is in pain L The shelter recommends amputating his leg if he is going to be rescued. Despite all what he has been through, he still gets up for some attention, rubs all over me, tons of purring.  Henry’s review date is Thursday so he needs out then. The RVT at Carson personally asked if I could give him a chance and network him.  No pressure, huh?  He is super super sweet. We desperately need pull fees and funding for his leg in order to pull him – I am estimating at least $500.  We also need a foster for this sweet guy. If you can help sponsor, please see chip in below or click donate button and get a tax deduction! More about Carson Cats

Over the past 4 years, Carson Cats has rescued over 2500 animals from the Los Angeles County Shelter System which is one of the largest systems in the country with one of the highest euthanasia rates.  Carson Cats evolved when Cyndi Zacko started going to the Carson County Shelter 5 years ago and  learned that virtually no cat rescues go there on a regular basis.   Well, she quickly learned why – the county shelters have a lot of red tape and are hard to work with, they don’t have a lot of money for the facility and staff, they have no rescue dedicated employees or red lists or new hope funding AND the people that turn in their animals there just don’t care at all.  Cyndi quickly became more involved than she ever expected because the need was just too great.  Cyndi works with the 3 cat volunteers from the shelter and has a few people help transport and network.  It is a TON of work for the small amount of dedicated volunteers they have and they have also helped many of the other county shelters such as Downey and Baldwin Park.

In 2010, Carson Cats spent over $85,000 to rescue over 600+ cats in need from the county shelters, paying for their vetting, boarding, shelter fees and transports to their prospective fosters, adopters and rescues to the Los Angeles Area.  Carson Cats also helped manage the rescue of over 100 cats from an extreme hoarding case where over 300 animals were seized.  Carson Cats also is affiliated with Stray Cat Alliance (www.straycatalliance.org) and helps feral cats in the shelter system by relocating over 150 feral cats that would otherwise be euthanized, and many of them turned out to be friendly and are in loving homes now!

A few of these cats are below:

This year alone, 410 dogs, cats and bunnies have been rescued through Carson Cats and 370 of those have had to have been vetted due to the terrible viruses the animals are exposed to in the shelter as well as the condition the animals are turned into due to abuse and neglect.  Carson Cats has had a lot of support, but unfortunately their bill has gotten quite high and they will not be able to help any other animals until they can get their bill down.  Right now Carson Cats need to pay their vets a minimum of $9000 in order to continue  (they actually have $15,000 in outstanding vet bills).  Here are some of the kitties that still need vetting and help:

WITH KITTEN SEASON IN FULL GEAR,  CARSON CATS EAGERLY and DESPERATELY NEEDS HELP IN PAYING THE VET BILLS FOR THESE CATS SO THEY CAN CONTINUE TO HELP THE ANIMALS STILL AT THE SHELTER!! WE ARE THEIR ONLY VOICE!

There are ones that currently need rescue but can’t be because there is nowhere to take them and no money to vet them.

Hi All –

We got this kitty out of the shelter a few weeks ago and he had a pretty bad Upper Respiratory.  We had him on IV fluids and he was well enough to go to a foster home this past Friday.  Too make a long story short, the foster gave him a bath Saturday am.  His temperature a few hours later went to 94.8 degrees.  The foster used a heating pad to warm him up and well, it worked, but the foster used the heating pad for the next 2 days and had it on HIGH HEAT L L L  Yesterday I got a call saying something was wrong with his fur-  it is falling off and blood all over the place. We rushed him to the vets where he stayed overnight.  The cat had suffered major 3-4 degree burns.  Wound was cleaned as best they could and IV Fluids and MAJOR pain meds used.  Euthanasia was recommended – I could not do it and wanted to see how he did overnight.

The pictures below are from this morning which actually is a far improvement from last night.  I don’t even want to show you what he looked like last night…It was HORRENDOUS, TEAR JERKING. I have cried so much my eyes are puffy. This was so preventable – This poor cat

The kitty is being treated now and stable.  We might want to  move him to a more critical 24/hour care center if we can get funds and also want to do some further testing because the doctor is worried about any underlying conditions because why did the kitty not move himself from the scolding heating pad?  I guess there are many reasons it could be, including falling asleep…I don’t know.

We are URGENTLY looking for funds for this sweet soul.  I have $400 to my name right now but I can’t give up on him.  Ways to donate are listed at the bottom of  this email along with his original plea.  The easiest and quickest way to donate though is through his chip-in listed below – we are estimating at LEAST $1500 when this is all over.
