Carson Cats is a cat rescue that is dedicated to rescuing cats and kittens from the 6 Los Angeles County shelters, mainly Carson Shelter located in Gardena, Ca. Over the past 7 years, Carson Cats has rescued over 7200 animals from the Los Angeles County Shelter System which has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country. This is a private, volunteer only organization and there is no direct affiliation with “Carson Cats” and the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.
Cyndi Zacko and her small team of volunteers work relentlessly to rescue cats in need from these shelters, raising money for their vetting, pulling them from the shelters and transporting them to prospective fosters, adopters and rescues to the Los Angeles Area. Carson Cats is also highly involved in making these cats HEALTHY for the rescues to take and find homes for because most of the animals that come from these shelters are exposed to terrible viruses or are surrendered to the shelter in terrible shape due to abuse and neglect.
Carson Cats also works with many of the local rescues to adopt out these animals so that they may live happy and healthy lives with tons of love. Carson Cats provides awareness to the community about the importance of spaying and neutering and helping out at a local level. They have also managed the rescue of animals from several hoarding situations in the Los Angeles area, including a case where over 300 animals were siezed by Animal Control because the conditions were so bad. Carson Cats is very involved in Stray Cat Alliance (www.straycatalliance.org) which is committed to the care and protection of the forgotten strays living in the shadows of our world.
Carson Cats is well respected and has been recognized for their rescue work in the community by multiple organizations throughout Los Angeles. Most recently,Cyndi Zacko was awarded Kitten Rescue’s Angel Award for her work with the Los Angeles County Shelters (www.kittenrescue.org). Cyndi Zacko was also recognized in 2011 by the Fur and Feather Animal Sanctuary (www.furfeather.org) by obtaining the “Lester Award” for saving cats/kittens at the worst shelters in Los Angeles. In 2009, Stray Cat Alliance (www.straycatalliance.org) recognized Cyndi with an award for her rescue work with ferals in the Los Angeles County Shelter Systems.
Caryn Klein works along side Cyndi Zacko with all aspects of Carson Cats rescue. She is our technically savvy member and social media guru where she works behind the scenes helping us network our animals for rescue. Caryn is also a volunteer with the LA County Department of Animal Services where she is an approved county foster for unweaned kittens and small dogs. She has taken several courses on how to care for these little ones and has saved so many bottle feeders that we have lost count! We would not have nearly the number of happy endings if it weren’t for Caryn!
