PLEASE HELP! The Carson Shelter and Carson Cats needs local volunteers!!! 62 cats need help!!

For 7 years, I have been networking the Carson Shelter cats with 2 other main volunteers (Caryn and Gail). Our tiny “rescue” has turned in to “Carson Cats” (www.carsoncats.com). In general, we go to the shelter, take pictures, network, raise money, vet the animals, place them in rescues, homes or our own fosters. Caryn helps with our pleas and website and takes on so many bottle babies as our only county approved foster to take in bottle babies – she also fosters chihuahuas. Gail has been a volunteer at the shelter for over 21 years and she goes every single Saturday and Tuesday and does everything from cleaning the cages to taking pictures of our cats to pulling them and taking them to our local vet. We are Carson shelter’s only dedicated cat rescue and we have between 130-170 cats and kittens at any given time…only about 20% get out alive even with our help.

Our shelter “rescue model” is to raise money and to find fosters and vet them straight out of the shelter before they go to a foster or rescue since we have found that most rescues or fosters can only help if cats are generally healthy.

Recently we have just been overwhelmed lately with the amount of work that is needed and the number of cats…we can’t even keep up with the amount of cats that are needing help to even put out pleas. The shelter calls me and needs a cat out within hours and I have no time to put the plea out (I have a full time job like most of us and even just creating a plea to network takes time, plus the coordination to pull the cat and transport to vet or foster also takes time).

My rescue vet has helped me out tremendously because they know how little help we have at Carson Shelter and they are trying to do their part…Right now we have 62 cats and kittens from Carson Shelter being boarded at my vets. It has instantly turned into the No-Kill Carson Shelter annex

The good thing is that these cats are safe and healthy now. The bad thing is that many of them have been sitting in cages for months and months and on the road no to nowhere and I have no room to even rescue any more from the Carson Shelter when they call

If you have 2-4 hours a week and can help take pictures at our cats at my vets that need networking or better yet can take pictures of the cats at the Carson Shelter or sign up to be a volunteer at Carson Shelter, it would help TREMENDOUSLY.

We also are DESPERATE for more rescues to help the cats at the Carson Shelter. We have so many and lately, it is just my vets that are willing to take them to board them to get them safe and well…but again, then the cats have no where to go and just sit in cages

Below is a list of just some of the cats and kittens at my vets – and it is just a partial list – I think I have about 30 kittens at my vets right now. If you would like to come and visit any of them personally, my vet is in torrance and you can always go visit.
